Pre-harvest Application of Roundup and Fusilade Super as a Minimum Tillage Technique for Sugarcane
نویسنده
چکیده
Ten field experiments, in which high rates of Roundup (glyphosate, 410g ailQ) and Fusilade Super (fluazifop-butyl, 125 g ailQ) were sprayed onto sugarcane cropsshortly before harvest, were carried out over a period of two years. Changes in cane quality were measured and regrowth of the subsequent ratoon was assessed. Treatment with Fusilade Superdid not result in an acceptable kill of the stool and treatment with Roundup resulted in an acceptable control only where a very poor crop of variety N8 growing on a light sandy soil was treated. High rates of Roundup did not improve plant kill, nor did the use of additives. In two experiments sugarcane quality remained unchanged when harvest was delayed more than II days after Roundup application, whilst the quality of unsprayed sugarcane improved.

Developments for Improved Chemical Cane Eradication
Sugarcane killing practices often result in inadequate eradication of the old crop. Techniques aimed at improving the efficacy of chemicals are therefore being researched. Results from a series of trials have shown that mechanical or hand slashing of ratoon cane suppresses apical dominance and generally enhances chemical cane killing action on the regrowth. Slashing before spraying proved to be...

A trial in which a plant crop of varieties N13 and N8 was grown under rainfed conditions showed that competition from C. rotundus caused decreases in yi...
متن کاملResponses of Some Sugarcane Varieties to Standard and Combination Ripener Treatments
The effects on sucrose yield of varying the time interval between Ethrel and Fusilade Super applications in a combination treatment were tested on variety NC0376. Results suggested that Ethrel applied 12 weeks, and Fusilade Super applied eight weeks before harvesting were the most beneficial. Other varieties which responded to a combination treatment were N19, N12 and N22. Varieties N14, N19, N...

South African sugarcane varieties N23 and N25 were compared against industry standards NCo376 and N19 on soils with low yield potential in four replicated, irrigated trials comprising a total of 17 crops, harvested either early, mid or late in the milling season. Chemical ripeners ethephon (2-chloroethanephosphonic acid) and Fusilade Super (fluazifop-p-butyl) were applied either alone or as a c...

The effect of adding Frigate (R), an adjuvant developed primarily for use with the isopropylamine salt of glyphosate (Roundup)," to improve the eradication of ratoon sugarcane under minimum tillage is discussed. Results are presented from replicated trials conducted over three seasons evaluating the effects on cane regrowth of adding Frigate to recommended and low rates of Roundup. Results are ...
